It’s Time

August 9, 2012

So the tests started in January of 2009 Xrays, breathing tests, MRI’s a Respiratory specialist gave me a puffer and said I had scaring in the lungs that was caused from inflammation and there was no known cause bla bla bla….

I asked for more specifics and said I’d do a lung biopsy which happened in October of 2009.  It was determined that I had a chronic lung disease with several names and I chose Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.  The Idiopathic stands for “un-known” cause.  It helps me accept that “it is what it is” and we move on from here, nothing I did in the past could help avoid this.

In February of 2010 Scott took me to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for a second opinion and they confirmed same, gave additional information about the disease and what it meant to have a ‘chronic’ disease  – no cure but there was a treatment…..that has proven successful…. a lung transplant.

Then they went on to say,….that we were very fortunate because we live in Toronto and that The Toronto General Hospital is world renown in Lung Transplantion.

Off to TO General in March of 2011 for a full week of assessment tests at which time they said “it’s not time yet, you are not sick enough”  1 year and 4 months later, July 2012, they said  “it’s time”.
